Step 1: Choose a Meta Quest Headset 

First things first, it’s time to invest in the latest fitness technology: a virtual/mixed reality headset. Lucky for you, you’ve got options! Litesport VR is compatible with Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, and the brand-new Quest 3. But why invest in a VR/MR headset? What exactly makes working out in virtual reality so special? VR fitness provides a unique and immersive workout unlike anything you’ve experienced before. Here are a few of our favorite reasons:

  • Accessibility: VR fitness is far more accessible and convenient than commuting to the gym. With a VR headset, you’re not only working out in the comfort of your own home, but you’re working out at home with real-world trainers right there in front of you.

  • Immersive gamification: Working out in virtual reality feels more like a game than a workout. Gamification elements like real-time results, scoring, workout challenges, social interaction, and more can improve your workout experience and boost your motivation.

Step 2: Set Up Your Meta Quest Headset

Good news, your Meta headset just arrived in the mail! Here are two key steps from Meta on how to get your new Meta Quest headset ready for action: 

  1. Charge your headset: To start, simply plug the charging cord into your Meta Quest headset and a power source to get that battery juiced up. Keep an eye out for the charging indicator turning green, letting you know it's fully charged and ready to go. Meta recommends keeping your headset connected to power while it runs the initial updates. 

  2. Download the Meta Quest app & create your account: If you’re new to Meta, you’ll first need to set up a Meta account. This action is part of the device setup process in the Meta Quest mobile app, so let the app guide you through it. Or you can set up a Meta account on the web at auth.meta.com.

Step 4: Adjust Your Headset for a Comfortable Fit

So you’ve got the headset and you’re set up with the Litesport membership option that’s right for you. But before you put on your headset and press play on your first workout, let’s make sure to adjust your headset to your unique face shape and size. Here are a few ways you can make adjustments so your VR experience is as comfortable as possible:

  • Adjustable strap design: Loosen or tighten the back and top straps by adjusting the sliders toward or away from you. Play around with this till you find the right fit that’s tight enough to stay on your head throughout a workout, but not tight enough that you’re getting a headache. 

  • Lens positioning: Use the lens adjustment wheel on the bottom left side of the Meta Quest 3 headset to change how close together the lenses are. Do this until the visuals in the headset are clear and visually comfortable to see. To change the lens spacing on your Meta Quest 2, gently adjust the lenses by shifting them together or apart. There are three lens spacing settings for Meta Quest 2.

  • Depth adjustment: If you have the new Meta Quest 3 you can adjust how far the lenses are from your face or eyeglasses by fiddling with the depth adjustment buttons. You’ll find the eye-relief buttons next to the lenses inside the facial interface. Hold down the button to adjust the distance and repeat to the same degree on the other side to ensure the settings are the same. 

  • Glasses spacer: If you have glasses that are 142mm or less in width and 50mm or less in height you can use the glasses spacer for a much more comfortable experience. First, remove the facial interface foam from your headset. Then attach the glasses spacer to your headset by pressing it into place where the foam just was. Place the foam over the spacer and you’re good to go.

Step 5: Find a Safe and Unobstructed Space to Workout

Next up, let’s make sure you have a safe space to work out. A guardian or boundary creates a safe area for you to explore virtual reality without bumping into anything. Meta recommends setting aside a 6.5 ft x 6.5 ft unobstructed playspace area or larger. This should be enough space for you to work out in VR with Litesport. And by unobstructed we mean no hanging lights, trippable obstacles, or roaming pets. 

We also suggest using the passthrough feature to take a look at your real-world surroundings to double-check that nothing is in your way. With Litesport, you can also keep passthrough mode on throughout your workout. This offers better spatial awareness while making it look like your trainer is right there with you in your living room.

Step 6: Step-by-Step Workout Tutorials

When you first start with Litesport, you’ll have the option to join an interactive tutorial of our Boxing, Strength, or Total-Body workouts. We recommend joining these tutorials before starting your first class. Led by one of our trainers, these step-by-step tutorials will familiarize you with all the Litesport basics and give you the chance to test them out in two mini-workouts. They offer a great orientation to Litesport and our specific terminology and techniques.

Here’s what you can expect from each one:

  • Boxing: Trainer JD will walk you through the boxing basics, orienting you to our Liteshield and six signature punches. You’ll also have the opportunity to practice a Mitt Drill and Punch Track workout. 

  • Total Body: Trainer Lissa will break down all our core total body movements, including battle rope swings, speed bags, duck ropes, and more. You’ll also have the opportunity to put these moves into practice.

  • Strength: Trainer Anthony will guide you through a short introduction to upper and lower body movements, including proper positioning and form. Then, you’ll pick up the dumbbells and give these exercises a try, mirroring Anthony as he leads you through each one. 

Step 7: Start Your First Workout

Now that you’re all set up, ready to go, and done with your workout tutorial, it’s time to start your first workout! There are three ways to work out with Litesport:

  1. Boxing : Improve your form, enhance your boxing technique, and get expert instruction and motivation in trainer-guided sessions, Mitt Drills, and Punch Tracks.

  2. Total Body: Get your arms and legs moving with dynamic and interactive VR elements that work the full body, like rope swings and speed bag punches.

  3. Strength: Build strength the right way in this unique-to-VR dumbbell-based workout. 

No matter the workout, all classes are incredibly fun while pushing you to do your best. But if you’re new to Litesport or working out in general, we recommend these resources as a great place to start:

After you master your first few beginner-level classes, try one of our Punch Tracks. These allow you to pick your own music and box to the beat. You can select a single song or a few together to make a personal playlist. Choose easy, medium, or hard to find the right challenge for you. 

Step 8: Customize Your Litesport Experience

There are plenty of ways to personalize your workout experience with Litesport! Here are a few options to turn your workout up a notch:

  • Update your settings: For personalized content recommendations, take some time to answer the onboarding questions that pop up the first time you sign into the Litesport app. These optional questions help us recommend the best content for you by getting to know you, your goals, and your preferences. If you skipped them, you can head into your Settings at any time and select “Manage Recommendations”.

  • Filter to find the best workout: Use the filter function in the upper left-hand corner to filter your workouts by difficulty, length, trainer, genre, and more. You can also star your favorite workouts and view them all in one place. 

  • Try our workout programs: Programs on Litesport are curated collections of classes created by our expert trainers. There are a variety of Programs available—and at all levels, from beginner to advanced—so you can choose the one that best fits your interests, preferred trainers, schedule, and experience.

  • Start liking songs: The more you interact with the app and express interest in certain workouts, the better able we are to recommend content you might like. So start liking or favoriting workouts so we can provide you with personalized content recommendations.

  • Build your first playlist: Our Playlist Builder feature lets you pick and choose the selection of workouts you want, put them in order, and press play to advance seamlessly from one to the next. It’s one of the easiest ways to build the workout you want, with all your favorite music, trainers, and classes.
