What’s the Professional Fighters League (PFL)?
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) started in 2018 as a way to organize MMA fights (mixed martial arts) in a familiar sport-season format, making fights easier and far more exciting to watch.
This year the PFL kicked off their third-ever season on April 23, featuring MMA athletes across six different weight classes:
- Men’s featherweight (145-pounds)
- Men’s lightweight (155-pounds)
- Men’s welterweight (170-pounds)
- Men’s light heavyweight (205-pounds)
- Men’s heavyweight (up to 265 pounds)
- Women’s lightweight (155-pounds)
The season is divided into Regular Season, Playoffs, and Championships. In the Regular Season, each fighter had two, three-round bouts across April, May, and June. Their final standings coming out of those matches were determined by a points system, with 3 points for a win plus extra points for knockouts and submissions.
The four fighters in each of the six categories with the most points advanced to the PFL Playoffs. The winners of those three single-elimination fights are the athletes heading to the Championship on October 27.

2021 PFL World Championship Match-ups
Each of the six championship fights consists of five, five-minute rounds where the winner of each weight class takes home $1 million and the title of PFL World Champion.
You’ll also get to watch a preliminary fight featuring the greatest women’s boxer of all time, Claressa Shields. And you can be there live and in-person to experience it all!
